Does Smoking
affects my unborn Child?
An unborn child receives everything that the
mother receives. When a pregnant woman smokes, her unborn child receives
poisons through the mother’s bloodstream. There are at least 12 known
cancer-causing agents and over 4,000 chemicals which an unborn child is
exposed to when his or her mother is smoking.
Further, smoking causes a mother’s blood vessels to become more
narrow, thus depriving her child from getting enough oxygen. This can
result in fetal injury, premature birth, and low
birth weight. It is
also linked to heart defects, cleft palate, and other birth defects.
The sooner you stop smoking during your pregnancy, the better chances
your unborn child has to be healthy. Make up your mind to help your
child have the best start in life. Get support from family, friends, and co-workers. Explain to them the
importance of quitting for your unborn child.
Face the urges one at a time. You can wait out each urge.
Congratulate yourself for the wonderful thing you are doing for your
child.
